Update: my life in Dubai!

It has been 4 months! Finally.... I have internet in my home and I can't wait to keep you updated about my adventures. The first few weeks (months actually) in Dubai have been hard. It has taken me a lot of time to adjust and get settled in. The 8 week training my batchmates and I went through was difficult and very tiring. All we did was study, sleep and eat. The intensity of it was amazing. However, after 2 months of flying I can say that it is one of the best opportunities I have had in life. Okay.. it is very hard.. sometimes I want to just go back home, but overall my life here is pretty amazing. The weather is always nice, I get to travel the world and meet tons of interesting people. Most times I am jetlagged and sleep deprived. There's days where I have to get up at 3 in the morning or leave at 3 in the afternoon. There is no such thing as 'routine'. It is very difficult sometimes. We work long long hours. Sometimes I am up and running for 18 hours AT LEAST! But without this job I would have never seen as many beautiful places as I have seen now. It's not all glamour... but it's worth it. I will keep you posted ;-)

One day left!

Tomorrow I'm leaving for Dubai!!! Packing is a chaos. There is stuff all over my floor and clothes in every room of the house. I have three suitcases to pack and a bag. Aaahh...
Tonight I'm having some friends and family over and tomorrow afternoon I will get on the plane. After a 6,5 hour flight with Emirates Airlines I will arrive at Dubai International Airport. There, I will be picked up and brought to my apartment, which is in Al-Qusais. I am very very nervous, but also can't wait to start this new chapter in my life. Wish me luck!!

Paris / Beauty Buys

I had a wonderful 4 days in Paris with my mom. We stayed in this really cute apartment in the middle of Montmartre. We walked to all the big tourist attractions, like Tour de Eiffel, Arc de Triomphe and the Louvre. I didn't do too much shopping, but since I still needed a few things for Dubai I thought it would be nice to get them in Paris :-).

From left to right:
1. Bio Beauté by Nuxe. This is an all natural face cream with SPF50, which I will definitely need in Dubai with my pale skin.
2. Klorane shampoo. I tried this from someone else and really liked it. This is the 'peony' version for an irritated scalp.
3. Caudalie facewash. I had seen this in New York, but thought it was too expensive. When I saw this smaller bottle at the Pharmacie, which was also much much cheaper, I had to to get it of course..
4. L'Oréal gel liner. This eyeliner stays put for 24 hours (so it says), which will be nice for long flights.
5. Evian spray for refreshment during flights.
6. Biafine. This is a cream that is usually used for burns. I heard from a make up artist that it works amazing on blemishes, red spots etc. Not expensive so I thought I'd try it out.
I also got the NARS Orgasm blush, but forgot to photograph it .. oops.

Going to Paris!

I have planned a trip to Paris!! Yayy.. I've never been to Paris before and since I will be moving to Dubai pretty soon I wanted to do something nice with my mom. Pretty good choice right?!
I can't wait to see the Eiffel Tower, go on the Seine with a boat and shop on des Champs Élysées.
Oh.. and eat Croissants and Macaroons of course.
We're taking the Thalys (superfast train that will get us in paris in 2,5 hours) and I will book a room through airbnb.com, which is usually much cheaper than a hotel. This way, you get to stay in a local's home, which always makes the trip more interesting in my opinion. After all, they have the inside knowledge hahah.

Any tips for visiting Paris anyone?

Primark Accessories

Looks like I just got these pieces from my-wardrobe, mytheresa or net-a-porter right?... uhmmmm...... no. Got them from Primark. Although I love some good (vintage) designer pieces, there is no shame in using less expensive items to doll yourself up. The necklace was €5,- and the ring was €2,-!!! You have to start small right?!

Dubai Fashion Wishlist

This is (one of) my 'wishlists' for Dubai. As you might notice, a lot of color. I used to absolutely hate yellow... now I love it. I really want a methacrylate clutch in either yellow or pink, round sunglasses (preferably vintage), bright yellow (or pink/baby blue) court shoes and a crazy colored dress. Nothing is over the top for Dubai is it?

Moving to Dubai: the dreaded medicals

Yesss....54 days before I leave for Dubai to become a Trolley Dolly for Emirates Airlines and it doesn't mean I can relax. As everyone else that will join Emirates I have to complete a HUGE list of medical examinations and vaccinations. Since both my doctor and dentist have found this to be the perfect time to take a vacation, I can't really do much yet.

This is the 'short' list of things I need to get done for pre-clearance:
  • blood test for HIV
  • dental x-ray
  • chest x-ray for tuberculosis
  • blood test for syphilis
  • blood test for Hepatitis B surface Antigen
These are a 'few' of the vaccinations, some of which require 4 injections (eww):
  • meningococal ACWY
  • Typhoid
  • PPD
  • Tetanus
  • Diphtheria
  • Polio
  • Varicella
Awesome right?! Lol... I hope I can get it all done as soon as possible, so I can start thinking about and shopping for the fun part :-D.

Outfit of Today: Denim

Oh yes. Denim is back (was it ever gone?). It always makes me feel like I've returned to the eighties. Well, I was born in '89 so I don't actually remember it hahah. Love this type of collar, that I just have to combine with a red lip.

I'm moving to Dubai!

I am moving to Dubai on the 5th of july!! Isn't that awesome?? I had applied as Cabin Crew for Emirates Airlines, got through all the stages (getting selected isn't easy) and today I finally got the Golden Call!! I am so excited. Before I leave I still have to go through a lot of medical tests and checks. Once in Dubai, I will be going through an intense 6/7 week training program and after that, I will be flying :-D! Fashion era: the Sixties

I AM OBSESSED with Mod Style fashion right now. The sixties in general are one of the best fashion era's in my opinion. Icons that come to mind are Twiggy, Brigitte Bardot, Audrey Hepburn, Jane Fonda, Jackie Kennedy.. oh lawd.. those were REAL women. Women with class, style and their own fabulous agenda to conquer the world with. Fortunately for me, some trends are back for SS13. I've seen great items at Topshop, Zara and River Island already.
Go get a few items, put on some black eyeliner and part your hair in the middle.. or get bangs. I migh also get some bangs again!

Felt like baking today!! Some of you know I try and keep my food as 'clean' as possible and so the stuff I baked today is also clean :-). No bad fats! No sugar! No guilt!
I made a Carrot Cake for 1, Banana Bread for 1 and Caramel Protein Cheesecake .. <3. The first two recipes are from dashingdish.com and the last one is from the lovely Vevian and her e-book 'Bake Shop', that you can buy through her website fitalicious.me. Now come help me eat it all .. hahah

Outfit of Today: Black & Yellow

It was a little difficult getting the lighting right with these contrasting colors but this is the result! As I said before, I love the style of the 50's 60's 70's and I'm so happy many of those trends are coming back. I love the pattern on the top, the baby yellow color & the thick fabric. The leggings have a velvet baroque print <3. Combine with loafers and big ash sunglasses and you're DONE. Love it?

Get the look: all H&M + 1 high end item

I love making an affordable outfit look absolutely expensive. Most times you can do this with just one item. In this case I took all items from H&M, except for the fabulous Marc Jacobs Mia Cat Face Loafers. I really really love these, although they are a little bit silly. The leather skirt obviously will not be very cheap either, but compared to high end brands, this is a good buy. Would you wear this outfit?

Outfit of Today: Patterned Pants

I love the style of the sixties and seventies and HAD to have these pants. Especially since they were only €9,95 :-O. I want to wear them with a crazy vintage sweater or something, but I don't have one :-(. Got to wear my new Loafers from H&M though yayy.

Review: Lush Toothy Tabs

It was a little weird to see these.. Toothy Tabs by Lush. They are bacically toothpaste tablets in different flavors. I tried out the 'Atomic Toothy Tab' with cinnamon and clove.
And.....??? I have to say I like them.. they taste a little funny, but leave a nice fresh taste and breath. I don't know if it's enough to only clean your teeth with these tabs, but they are nice for quick refreshment. Also, the little box they come in is perfect for traveling. It will fit in a small bag perfectly. Go get some.

Review: Calvin Klein 3-in-1 Foundation

After my audition in Amsterdam on wednesday I went to do some window shopping. I was looking at make-up and even though I don't really use foundation (I prefer BB Cream) I wanted to try one from Dior. The girl in the store recommended me another one, because I wanted it to be very light. She cleaned my face and re-did my maquillage with the new Calvin Klein One Colour 3-in-1 face makeup. I didn't buy it right away, because I wanted to see how it looked at the end of the day. I decided I really REALLY liked it and the next day I ordered it online with a giftcard (LUCKY ME!!) that I didn´t spend yet.
So what's the verdict?
I'm very pale and got number 300, Sand. I actually could have gone for a lighter one, but since summer is coming, this is just fine. Best result: a smoothhhhhh face. I really love how soft my skin feels after applying this. It´s a serum, a primer and face make-up (duh) in one. It's also oil free, for a matte look, and has a little bit of SPF in it. Definitely worth the moneyyy.. you can get it at Ulta!

Once upon a time on the movie set..

Aaaand.. ACTION!
Yesterday me and my cousin did some work as 'extras' for a new Dutch tv show about the famous Johan Cruijff. It was such a fun day and I can't wait to do it again. We were up front in every scene lol.. yayyy!! It will air spring 2014, so we'll have to wait for the results.
In the first scene we were dressed in clothes from the 70's, wide flared pants and a jacket with little cherries on it. The second scene took place in the 80's, so I had on a denim jacket with HUGE shoulder pads and these really pointy and ugly ugly shoes.
We had to wait a lot so we ended up taking silly pictures. We got some looks, but oh well..... AND we got to take pictures with the main character, played by Reinout Scholten van Aschat, who also did The Heineken Kidnapping. Coooowlll.

LUSH hair

After my haircut with Rob Peetoom a few days ago, I decided to get some natural hair products. I have a little weekness for the LUSH store and their products, so I decided to take a look in the store.
Of course I would leave with something: Cynthia Sylvia Stout Shampoo and R&B Hair Moisturizer. The shampoo is made with stout beer and is supposed to make your hair shine. I didn't really notice anything, but it does its main job. The Moisturizer is the one I really love. Because I use a lot of heat on my hair daily I really need something to protect the ends of my hair and to feed the rest. This product contains organic avocado butter, oatmeal , olive oil, extra virgin coconut oil, jojoba oil and candelilla wax. I love it, it gives shine and it smells delishhhh!
The shampoo (small size) was $9,95 and the moisturizer was a little more expensive, about $22,95 .. totally worth the money.
